Silicon Valley Power Refrigerator Rebate


Silicon Valley Power, City of Santa Clara in California, is offering a Refrigerator Rebate. If you are a SVP customer, all you need to do is buy a qualifying ENERGY STAR refrigerator and get $50 rebate from Silicon Valley Power. You will get an additional $35 for recycling your old refrigerator. Rebate will appear as a credit on your utility bill.

Here is how you can qualify for the SVP refrigerator rebate:

1. Purchase an Energy Star qualified refrigerator from participating retailers. Excludes freezer only of any size, refrigerator only, single door or refrigerator / freezer, single door appliances sized smaller than thirteen cubic feet;

2. Download a copy of the refrigerator rebate application, fill it out, fax or mail it in with a copy of your receipt, and postmark it no later than 60 days after purchase or installation; and

3. Recycle your old refrigerator.

Save $50 on your next refrigerator while at the same time save on future electricity bills.

Cash for Refrigerator taking off

The New York Times reported that recycling program for refrigerators is taking off that works like “cash for clunkers.” The cash-for-refrigerators program spread like wildfire. In fact, New York times reported on August 4 that:

Last week, New Jersey began a statewide program that offers residents a $30 rebate by recycling eligible refrigerators or freezers. Old refrigerators and freezers in Vermont also fetch $30, under a program begun last month.

Pickup is free in both states.

National Grid began a similar program in June, in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

The program hopes to save energy and save money for both the utility company and consumer. It also helps save the environment.

City of Fort Collins refrigerator and freezer recycling rebates

The City of Fort Collins in Colorado is encouraging its residents to recycle their old refrigerators and freezers by giving them a $35 bill credit.

You will get a $35 bill credit in exchange for turning over your old refregirator or freezer to the city government. All you have to do is call them and arrange to have your old appliance picked up for free.

Following are quidelines to qualify for the $35 refrigerator and freezer recycling rebates:

  • Fort Collins Utilities electric residential and commercial customers are eligible.
  • Customer must own the appliance being recycled (limit of two per account).
  • Appliance must be working (plugged in and cooling) and between 10–27 cubic feet.
  • Customer will receive a one-time bill credit within 4–6 weeks after collection.
